Comfort

No matter what kind of outdoor adventures are your passion — whether it be backpacking, cycling, kayaking, or even trekking across the country through miles of uncharted jungles, swamps, and deserts, choosing the right shelter can make all the difference when it comes to your comfort and safety.

Getting an adequate amount of quality, restorative rest is important when you’re pushing your body beyond what it’s used to. After a long day of hiking, biking, climbing, or rowing, you’ll likely be tired, have sore muscles, and be ready to kick back and get some rest. Nothing foils that plan to relax faster than having to sleep on cold, hard ground, or waking up to the sound of a mosquito humming in your ear.

If you’re like many people who have had their fill of sleeping on the ground, you may want to consider trading in your big, bulky tent for a camping hammock. But not just anyone will do — if you’re looking for the most comfortable hammock money can buy, one that will provide you with the best night’s sleep you’ll ever experience away from home, we encourage you to try a Hennessy.

Camping hammocks seem to have popped up all over — you can now find them at just about any store that sells outdoor gear. However, not all hammocks are the same. Hennessy hammocks have several patented design features that put them in a class all their own. If you’re looking for a more comfortable way to camp, a hammock is a good choice, but if you’re looking for a shelter that can provide supreme comfort, while also keeping you warm, dry, and safe from bugs, then a Hennessy is what you need. Keep reading to learn more about our unique features designed for the ultimate comfortable camping experience.

Rainproof

Nothing puts a damper on a camping trip like waking up cold and soaking wet in the middle of the night. You not only feel exhausted the next day but you risk getting sick. If you want to stay warm, dry, and comfortable, it’s important to have a shelter that can, well, provide shelter when you need it most. Here are a couple of our hammock features that will help keep you dry no matter what kind of weather you encounter.

Waterproof Rainfly

All of our hammocks come with a matching, asymmetrical 2000mm waterproof rainfly. What does a 2000mm rating mean to you when you’re stuck in a tropical downpour? It means your rainfly can withstand a 2,000mm (or 2 meters) column of water pressing down on it before it even thinks about leaking. That kind of protection should keep you dry in just about any storm!

Quick Set-Up

Another thing to consider when you start to see clouds looming overhead is how quickly you can get to your shelter. If you’re traveling with a tent, it might take a while from the time you feel the first raindrop until you can safely take cover inside. Sometimes storms approach quickly and if you can’t get to your shelter quickly, you’ll be soaking wet for the rest of the day. The fact that Hennessy hammocks can be set up just about anywhere in a matter of minutes is a great benefit when you’re wanting to stay warm and dry.

Bug-proof

There’s nothing worse than settling down for the night after a long and exhausting day of exploring only to hear that one thing you know will keep you up all night — the shrill, piercing sound of a determined mosquito coming to get you. While this tiny winged creature can pose as a big nuisance, for those traveling through tropical or jungle areas, being stung by a mosquito can also put you at risk of contracting malaria, West Nile Virus, or other deadly diseases. And mosquitos aren’t the only pests your Hennessy hammock will protect you from — the tightly woven bug-proof mesh is an effective barrier against fire ants, scorpions, spiders, and other creepy-crawlies.

Not only will our comfortable hammock keep you up off of the ground where the majority of bugs and other undesirables roam, but we’ve also designed our shelters with a high-quality mesh fabric that’s densely woven to allow air in while keeping even the smallest creatures out. For added protection, you may want to consider purchasing one of our classic bottom entry hammocks. It is yet another smart design feature patented by Hennessy Hammock that allows users to enter the hammock from the bottom instead of trying to climb in from the side. An overlapping velcro closure automatically snaps closed under the weight of your body and remains tightly sealed. It also holds the entrance closed when the occupant is not in the hammock. This is an incredibly useful feature when you’re trying to escape from an army of mosquitos.

People all over the world rely on their Hennessy hammock to keep them safe in potentially dangerous environments. Read more about some of the travelers who have relied on their hammock for protection — including Ed Stafford who spent 860 days in the Amazon jungle — on our extreme adventurers page.

Room To Spread Out

If you’ve ever tried to crawl into a traditional hammock, then you might remember how it was comfortable at first, but then you quickly felt squashed and cramped as the hammock “hugged” you on both sides, preventing you from being able to spread out or even move. If you love the idea of not having to sleep on the hard, uneven ground but wish you didn’t feel confined in a hammock, the Hennessy was designed just for you.

Asymmetrical Design

Perhaps one of the most defining features of the Hennessy Hammock — the one that makes it the most comfortable hammock you can buy — is its patented asymmetrical design. So, what exactly does asymmetrical mean? It means we’ve moved the anchor points of the hammock to allow for a longer, wider area to spread out so you can sleep flat when laying on the diagonal.

Structured Ridgeline

Another patented feature that enhances the comfort of our hammocks is the structured ridgeline. This helps to maintain the same consistent shape of your hammock night after night so you can keep your back straight and get the same quality night’s sleep whether it’s your first night on the trail or your 100th.

Stay Warm and Cozy

Optional Double-Layer Bottom

All of our Jungle Series hammocks have a two-layer bottom and a full-length zipper on one side between the mesh and bottom fabric. While two-layer bottomed hammocks weigh a little more, if you are heading for really buggy areas, this is a good solution.

Between the two layers of bottom fabric is a space to insert your insulation of choice. It could be anything from an insulating pad to spare clothing, a blanket, or anything else that could help shield you from a cold breeze and prevent warm air from escaping. For optimum comfort, you might want to check out our Radiant Double Bubble Pad which can be purchased separately and is designed with silver material on both sides to reflect 97% of your body’s heat. Unlike a rolled-up sweatshirt, its intuitive design will help keep you comfortable down to 40℉( 5℃). Plus, this pad clips into position on the correct diagonal which means it won’t move around on you during the night.

Optional Over-Cover

If you’re going to be camping during sub-freezing temperatures, you may want to consider this handy accessory. The over-cover is an additional layer of protection that fits over the mosquito net to keep the warmer air inside the hammock from escaping. It is made of uncoated 30D nylon for exceptional durability and features a breathing hole to prevent condensation. Any condensation that does form will wick through the uncoated nylon fabric and quickly evaporate into the dry air moving between the over-cover and the rainfly. You can purchase it separately or as a perfect addition to the 4 Season SuperShelter Insulation System which includes an UnderCover, UnderPad (contoured open-cell foam pad), and a space blanket that can be used on top or under the foam pad to reflect body heat.
